Notes

See various attached documents cited below, in Sources. The gist is that W.H. moved from Hamilton County, Ohio, to Denver in 1865, then to Wyoming, near Sherman, in 1867; his father Eli came to visit him there in 1868, and died near Sherman in that year. In 1870, the story goes, W.H.'s mother Annetta moved to Wyoming with the rest of the family. W.H. made a good living for himself and his family in the lumber trade, later opening a department store in Laramie. He also made frequent appearances in the government of Wyoming, both before and after it became a state. There's much more available in the excerpts from Progressive Men of Wyoming.

See also excerpt from Women of Wyoming, which places the wedding on May 4, 1869.
