MrJumbo’s New York: Waterfront

Not long ago, the waterfront down here was a rough neighborhood, not a great place to find yourself after dark. In the past five years, all kinds of new development has sprung up, everything from skating rinks to art galleries to day spas to a shopping mall and a movie studio or two. Suddenly Chelsea is the hottest neighborhood in town, and the waterfront is a wonderful, friendly place to hang out.

From the other side of Manhattan, looking east toward Brooklyn.

Back at Chelsea Piers, I wanted to see how well my new camera’s fastest speed would freeze motion.

As I tracked the helicopter, it flew past the moon.

Which reminded me to get a closeup. With my old camera, a crescent moon always looked like a piece of lint on the negative. Now you can see some details on the moon’s surface.
