MrJumbo’s New York: West Village

Chelsea is just north of the West Village, the western reach of Greenwich Village, filled with cobblestone side streets that collide at crazy angles and one-of-a-kind architecture.

This little watchtower (really a chimney, I think) sits on a high corner of Westbeth, the artists colony in a converted warehouse at the corner of the West Street and Bethune.

Two towers and a bridge at Westbeth.

This part of the West Village is crowded with meat warehouses and businesses that serve butchers.

It also has developed a thriving underground nightlife. Notice the posters reflected in the front door, advertising all kinds of clubs and shows.

Jimi Hendrix wrote a song called “Bellybutton Window.”

The West Village is a delightful neighborhood for a relaxed gambol on a lazy afternoon.
